IDEAS City Press Release

Announcing an exciting and historical event!!  Every two years IDEAS CITY brings tens of thousands of people for several days of ideas, arts, culture, exhibits, panels, etc. This year features individuals such as Lawrence Lessig (internet activist and ethicist) to Bjarke Ingels (architect tapped to protect Lower Manhattan from the next hurricane), Rosanne Haggerty (MacArthur Genius Grantee, advocate to end homelessness) to Micah White (co-creator of Occupy Wall Street and proprietor of the Boutique Activist Consultancy), culminating with an all women Mayor’s Panel.

….. and (drumroll) … our debaters!!!  This year our debaters have been invited to participate in “Rhetoric in the Ring!”  There will be a boxing ring set up for two teams to debate public forum, parliamentary debate or policy debate.  Topics are our past topics – so no need to do any additional preparation.  We can schedule rounds between your own teams or if you prefer to debate another school.  We have 3-4 hours and so can probably schedule 5-10 debates.  Audience will be judges. There are huge crowds there and so expect this to be a very unique and historical opportunity for our debaters to showcase their skills to the general public and contribute to the ideas of the city!  All participants will receive medals as well as special prizes from the organizers.

So please let us know if interested in attending. The date would be Saturday, May 30th and the times between 12pm – 4:00pm at Roosevelt Park at Houston Street, between Chrystie and Forsyth Streets.  More information in the attachment or fee free to email us at nycudl@gmail.com or call us at 917-455-1079.
